What is “Eco-Friendly Mold Removal” or “Environmentally Friendly Mold Removal”?

This is a great question and one that we are asked frequently. With so many companies these days claiming to be a “Green Company” or “Eco-Friendly” it is very important to know exactly what those ideas mean. The term “sustainable business practices” refers to a pattern of behavior that is dedicated to responsible use of resources in a way that has the least possible impact on the environment. Often referred to as “Green Practices”, this behavior focusses on the utilization of existing resources without harming the ability of future generations of enjoying these same resources.

Now what does this all mean when it comes to MoldRemovalPhiladelphia.net and our Mold Removal process? When I decided I was going to start a mold remediation company 3 years ago I said I would only do it if I was able to do it using sustainable practices. This means that I had to be able to find a company that supplied “Green” mold removal chemicals. These chemicals are primarily hydrogen peroxide-based antimicrobial agents that will destroy all organic material it is exposed to, but will break down into water vapor after about 60 minutes. This is also referred to as “Green Chemistry”. We also needed to find local companies that sold recycled or reclaimed building materials. These materials include wood for framing, sheetrock, carpet and paint. Most importantly we had to find a local company that would accept building materials that we removed due to mold contamination. While it took some time and research, we were able to find several local companies that were also dedicated to sustainable practices.

Once we were able to make sure our key day-to-day operations were Eco-friendly, we began to fine tune the other aspects of our operation to make sure that we were not missing an opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint. All of our in-office paper is 100% recycled content. This includes printing paper, envelopes, marketing material and business cards. All new vehicles purchases by the company will be hybrid electric fueled units. We also use biodegradable poly sheathing for all of our containment set-ups. While Environmentally Friendly Mold Removal is an evolving idea, we believe it is one that is worth the extra effort and is something that should be encouraged in all the trade professions.
